Abstract
This study features an analysis of the culture representation of Ireland’s rural women in film and television, which explores the effects of this representation both on an ecological and socio-economic level. Texts considered include The Quiet Man, The Hole in the Ground and Smother. This paper ultimately argues that popular and standardised representations of Irish rural women have detrimental effects to ecology and women’s agency.
