Data Journalism in Spanish Newspapers: A Change in Culture

Abstract

With the consequence of globalization, technology that has grown at a rapid pace has spread all over the world, and people’s access to technology has become easier over time. Data analysis, processing, and transfer have all become easier as a result of this diffusion. Data that has been interwoven into all aspects of life has had an impact on journalistic methods over time. The data-driven transformation of journalism has gained traction in recent years, and it has begun to displace traditional journalism in favor of digital media. Although data is employed in traditional journalism, data journalism has emerged as a result of the digital transformation of data and its transmission to the reader. This research analyses data journalism practices in Spain with a qualitative analysis focused on interviews with 15 interviewees from Marca, Mundo Deportivo, AS, El Mundo, El Confidencial and El Pais. The results were analysed and described in three main topics as production process, implementation of data journalism and current situation in Spanish newspapers.
