Taliban Takeover in Afghanistan: Framing Analysis of Pakistani and Indian Press

Abstract

The study is particularly interested in investigating frames and slants as to how the Taliban take over Kabul is being represented and portrayed by the print media in two South Asian Nuclear Powers and regional countries Pakistan and India. The front page of the two leading Pakistani and Indian English dailies – Dawn and Times of India are analyzed, especially after leaving the USA. The front pages of the Daily newspapers sheds some light on how Pakistani and Indian dailies depict the Taliban taking over Kabul. This research investigates the difference of framing in policies of both dailies regarding Taliban takeover. The time frame consists of May 2021 to August 2021. This paper is conducted under the umbrella of framing theory and a quantitative content analysis research method is used for collecting data - with a coding sheet. Data are analyzed in SPSS and descriptive statistics are used to explain the findings. Chi-square is used to validate the variables.
