Exploring Spiritual Capital in the Context of Islamic Moral Economy

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine and investigate spiritual capital as an unconventional Islamic development model. A conventional economic perspective of spiritual capital is discussed to develop an understanding of western concepts and differences in Islamic spiritual capital. The positivist and empiricist, the leading illuminate of reality, have always ignored religion and its metaphoric standpoint view. Broader societal shifts and changes are contributing to clearing the way for a research topic like science, religion, spirituality, and spiritual capital. This study is going to contribute especially to Islamic banking and finance, the Islamic Moral economy, and generally in the area of intellectual capital as well as intangibles. Qualitative discourse analysis is used to examine and evaluate the text to understand how institutions and individuals attach value to spiritual capital. The research concludes that spiritual capital has a significant contribution to the development of the Islamic moral economy. Spiritual capital theory may employed in the development of social and economic policies.
