Dominican Education in Poland in the Middle Ages: The Example of the Convent in Leczyca

Abstract

At the Dominican monastery in Łęczyca founded in the second half of the 13th century, there were three types of Dominican studies: novitiate, monastic, and particular, which we consider in this research. In the novitiate future monks were prepared for religious service: future priests separately lay brothers separately. Philosophy and theology were taught in the conventual school, and theological studies were deepened in the particular school. In the Dominican Order all monks were required to receive permanent education. We have a team of students and teachers of individual subjects from the above-mentioned schools in Leczyca.
