Abstract
Children’s educational aspirations are affected by various factors such as caste, class, gender, religion, region, geographical location, family and parental attitudes, etc. The paper analyses the impact of parental income and educational attitude on Muslim children’s educational aspirations and achievements. The paper argues that more than any other factor, the impact of the social and cultural capital of the family plays a significant role in shaping the ambitions of the children. To meet the objectives, the study collected empirical data from the teachers by using open-ended questionnaires and personal interviews. The study found that the majority of Muslim parents are uneducated and unable to fulfill the co-educator role and provide a learning atmosphere at home, which depends on many factors, including the family’s social class, the parent’s level of education, and their interest and aspiration toward education.
