The Journey (Siyaha) as a Spiritual Practice in Sufism

Abstract

As Pilgrimage is a religious pillar in Islam, in its spiritual tradition (sufism), the journey (siyaha) represents a main duty and a representation of the spiritual path itself. We introduce here an historical and intellectual review of this practice: from the early classical texts, to the main spiritual of sufism like Ibn Arabi, al-Shadhili and more recent authors. A practice in search of knowledge, blessings, guidance, masters or illumination, that lastly represents a pursue in attaining the divine through in this world, its places and its peoples, as a locus of manifestation (mazhar) of God and “a sing for those who haver kernels”.
