Abstract
This paper seeks to understand how religious narratives impact the regional order of the Middle East. The term “religious narratives” is left intentionally vague to account for the narrowing effect of existing international relations frameworks. Through three case studies– the Yemeni crisis, the Syrian mosaic rhetoric, and Western conceptions of religion– I explore how religious narratives are created and utilized in relation to a given actor’s regional agenda.
