Abstract

Pakistan’s national literary legend Allama Iqbal (1877-1938): a Muslim poet, philosopher and politician in British India. He wrote his works in Persian and Urdu and is cherished and talked about whenever the subject of Pakistani literature comes up. He is a visionary national poet of not only Pakistan but of the entire Islamic World which is why he’s also the famous poet of Iran. No wonder, he was a revolutionary writer with great consciousness and precision who gave philosophical ideas regarding universe in quite a new way. His concept of revival and revolution did not only lead to the creation of Pakistan, but also gave a new breath and the sense of revolution to the Islamic world and East. He believes that religion is the dying man’s hope of the last straw at which they clutch with all their might. Iqbal has realized that Islam has lost its glory and that the people have drifted far away from it. With this in view he coaxes them to come back to it by singing of the glorious past. Iqbal’s thought in his work primarily focused on the spiritual direction and development of human society. He was profoundly influenced by Nietzsche, Bergson, Goethe and Lenin, but later the poetry and philosophy of Maulana Rumi bore the deepest influence on Iqbal’s mind. For him the aim of life is self realization, self-knowledge, and harmony in human beings.
