Competencies Framework for Dharma Speakers in Indonesia

Abstract

Human resources are an important factor that has a major influence on the ability of an organization, both profit and non-profit, to achieve its goals. This also applies to Buddhist organizations which rely heavily on volunteers to carry out their mission. Therefore, the development of human resource competencies in Buddhist organizations deserves attention. In Indonesia, the teaching of Dharma is carried out by monks and nuns and householders (pandita and dharmaduta). They are invited to deliver Dharma sermons at various Buddhist religious activities. This paper further explains the findings of researchers regarding the development of competency in delivering Dharma sermons carried out by the Indonesian Buddhayana Council. In addition, the study considers the competency framework needed to develop the abilities of Dharma preachers. Recruitment standards, competency assessment standards, and training plan development standards can be developed based on the competency framework.
