Exegesis and Exigences: A Rhetorical Analysis of the Homily of Bishop Broderick Pabillo on Laetare Sunday 2021

Abstract

The paper seeks to answer the question: How do the exegesis reinforce the exigences presented in the homily of Bishop Broderick Pabillo in his 2021 Laetare Sunday homily? Specifically, the objectives of the study are: (1) to identify the exigences presented in the homily using Lloyd Bitzer’s Rhetorical Situation as a theoretical framework, (2) to explain the exegesis employed in the homily using St. Augustine’s Signa Propria and Signa Translata as a rhetorical framework, and (3) to analyze how do the exegesis reinforce the exigences in the homily. The results of the study hopes to establish the inseparability and interdependence of religion and society.
