Abstract
It should be assumed that people with disabilities are not only a passive recipient of help, activities focused on providing spiritual and material help, but above all they are active members of the church community. Therefore, it is justified to treat disabled persons as equal members of church society and, consequently, to allow them to active participation in the life of the parish community. The role of people with disabilities in the life of the parish community is therefore based on two basic components: activities undertaken by priests to organize the religious life of people with disabilities and on activities undertaken by people with disabilities within the parish community. Taken actions may exclude or include them with all others parishioners. The aim of the paper is to present the results of nationwide research on the role of disabled people in the life of the parish community in the opinion of Polish Roman Catholic priests and the disabled. The study was carried out as part of the project “The provisions of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Legislation and Pastoral Practice of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland,” financed by the Ministry of Higher Education, no. Project 0297/2018. The research used quantitative (PAPI) and qualitative (FGI) techniques.
