Consciousness Examen : Confessor Manuals in Fifteenth-Century England

Abstract

Technical writing was alive and active in England, even before the proliferation of movable-type printed documents. The technical endeavor of leading a penitent through the consciousness examen was vigorously supported by hand-written technical documents. I will for the first time present several such technical spiritual guides with the particular scribal innovations demonstrating technical proficiency and practical applicability. The showcase will include image projection to facilitate delegate understanding.
