Mediating Effect of Spirituality between Employee Engagement and Job Satisfaction Among Catholic Schools’ Employees

Abstract

Employees are one of the most important assets in any organization. Nurturing them is at the top priority in today’s competitive business environment. However, Catholic schools in the Philippines face the big challenge of employee turnover. Hence, keeping employees satisfied is the key focus area to be achieved. Various factors, such as engagement and spirituality, are crucial for employee satisfaction. This study focuses on evaluating the mediating effect of spirituality between employee engagement and job satisfaction among employees of sixteen Catholic schools in the Davao region, Philippines for the school year 2017-2018. The results of the study did not reveal the mediating effect of spirituality between employee engagement and job satisfaction However, employee engagement showed a direct effect towards job satisfaction and spirituality. Based on the results, a deeper reflection and immediate action for all stakeholders of Catholic schools, particularly administrators, need to be in place as to how to develop or deepen the spirituality of their employees.
