Modern Millenial Movements: The Example of Rajneeshpuram

Abstract

In my research I focus on millenial/apocaliptical movements, their characteristic features, organization, psychology etc. I am interested in the main ideas and mechanisms that are driving that kind of enterprises, overviewing the history - starting from Jewish pre–Christian movements, through early Christian to recent examples. A special focus of attention for this paper is the Rajneeshpuram community in the 1980s America - what happened in the commune and how it “signs up” in the broader context of millenial/apocaliptic movements.
