Religious Beliefs and Human Dignity: Lived Experiences of Marginalized Workers in an Urban Setting

Abstract

Religious texts discuss human dignity. Intrinsic, inviolable, and indispensable are characteristics taught not only by the church but revealed by natural laws. Amidst the extrajudicial killings, unjust labor practices, and inhumane environment which the marginalized experiences, this study considers how they view human dignity. It aims to achieve the following objectives: determine how poverty affects relationships with other people, ascertain the role of religion in their effort to uphold human dignity, and describe their lived experiences that may contribute to their understanding of human dignity. This study analysed and interpreted data gathered from interviews and focused group discussions that described the lived experiences of marginalised workers in an urban setting.
