Abstract
In the XIX century Spain had the birth of different nationalisms, as part of the identity search that the crisis of the old regime brought. Some of the most prominent intellectuals saw the necessity to get distant from the Catholic Church, which had been the only legitimize spiritual and religious agent. The birth of Spanish nationalism was coincident with the first transcendental experiences with nature, and with the birth of the National Wildlife protection. In this paper, we consider and attempt to answer what it was then and what is left nowadays.
