Abstract

The purpose of this paper was to challenge Iglesia ni Cristo’s (INC) claim that the Jesus Christ that they worship is not God. The paper is divided into two parts. The first part answers the questions, “who is Jesus in the eyes of INC?” and traces its Christological roots and how the church fathers addressed the controversy. The second part provides apologetics on the person of Jesus according to the Holy Scripture and states the goal of apologetics in the Christian faith. The INC movement is the third large “Christian” group in the Philippines next to Protestantism. Both the Protestants and the Roman Catholics agree with the Doctrine of Jesus’ Divinity. For INC it’s different, they believe that Jesus is just a created being by God the Father and yet they claim to be the “true church of Christ”. The reasoning of these claims is questionable as the Holy Scriptures are concerned for it contradicts what the prophets have spoken in the Old Testament and the core theme of the Apostle’s teaching in the New Testament. The goal of apologetics is not to win a religious debate but rather, implies that the Christian faith is a reasonable one.
