Impacts of Shah Daula Shrine’s Traditions on Pakistani Society : An Exploratory Study of Islamic Spiritualism

Abstract

Spiritualism is always considered as a way to get closer to God and the Islamic spiritual traditions are to preparing human beings to obey God. Sufi Saints did a lot in spirituality to develop peaceful Islamic civilization in Asia. Sufi spiritual practices develop virtues like discipline, tolerance, firmness, and courtesy in the human self. History is evident that a lot of people accepted Islam due to the beauty of the spiritual practices of Sufi Saints, especially in the subcontinent. That’s why there are many great examples of Islamic Spirituality. Among these famous shrines, one of them is in Gujrat Pakistan popularly known as Syed Kabeer-u-Din Shah Daula Shrine. The main aim of this study is to investigate the traditional impacts on Religion and Pakistani society to clarify the contemporary misconceptions prevailing in the Pakistani community specifically about the issue of first-baby-born and disabled births. The article discusses the impacts associated with the spiritual traditions which are directly or indirectly propagated with the shrine to propagate the mystery, misconceptions, and beliefs about Shah Daula and the Shrine. This is compound research; data was collected through literature review, interviews, and observations by the research assistants/supervisor. The article provides a comprehensive view of peaceful spiritual Islamic preaching at Shah Daula Shrine by providing authentic pieces of evidence.
