Educational Support and Teachers' Job Performance in Secondary Schools in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria

Abstract

The main thrust of this study was to investigate the influence of educational support services on teachers’ job performance in secondary schools in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The study adopted ex-post factor research design. A total sample of 721 teachers which was 20% of the population was selected from the study area. The main instruments were validated by experts and the reliability of the instrument was established using Cronbach alpha and the co-efficient obtained ranged from .77- .85 and were high enough for the instrument to be considered reliable. Data collected were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the result showed that there is a significant influence of health and information Communication Technology (ICT) support services on teachers’ job performance in terms of lesson presentation, knowledge of subject matter and teaching strategies. Based on the finding of the study, it was recommended that health services should be provided in secondary school in order to cater for the needs of staff for effective and better job performance and that information and communication technology (ICT) should be provided in order to help them utilize modern ways of teaching and learning in schools.
