How Knowledge Sharing Motivation Enhances Employee Performance in the Private Banking Sector

Abstract

Banking sector employees have knowledge and learning abilities, but they are unable to avail themselves of opportunities because of interaction gap among colleagues. There is also a lack of motivation among them to explore new knowledge and to interrelate among peers. This paper aims to clarify the relationship between knowledge sharing, organizational performance, absorptive capacity, and motivation to share knowledge among banking professionals in remote areas of Pakistan. Knowledge sharing leads to removing communication barriers and an increase in learning new techniques when it comes to solving customer problems and queries. The study was conducted to reaffirm the existing theory of knowledge sharing and organizational performance in the setting of private banking sector in in the remote areas of Pakistan. A questionnaire based survey was conducted in selected regions of Pakistan (Punjab province) to collect responses from 364 banking professionals. Two mediating variables have been added in the research model to see the impact on the performance of employees in the presence of absorptive capacity and motivation to share knowledge. Results have shown that knowledge sharing strongly affects the employees’ performance through enhancing absorptive capacity and motivation to share knowledge.
