Abstract
Diversity and inclusion are becoming essential to organizational strategy and success. Simultaneously, the United States is projected to be minority white by 2045. What will, or should, become of such values and principles in the pursuit of workforce equity? Providing accommodations for the “non-traditional” employee can be no longer as we must redefine workforce adaptivity vs. reaction. Regardless of industry, we can leverage these new demands by flexing organizational culture and expectations to provide not just inclusive, but purposeful and meaningful vocation that goes beyond recruitment and retention. Drawing upon anti-oppressive practices, critical race theory, and other principles of social work education (including harm reduction and suicide prevention), participants will explore how to better model humility, expertise, and boundaries to avoid diversity “burnout” and promote dignified work.
