Executions or Empathy?: A Call for Leadership and Accountability for Behavior Change in the #MeToo Era

Abstract

A lot of behavior towards women that was once considered “normal” and something we simply had to put up with is no longer acceptable, in part due to the #MeToo Movement. However, the mechanics of how to fairly investigate and deal with those who violate the new workplace norms are still unclear, leaving many men uncomfortable working with female employees and leaders uncertain about how to hold norm violators accountable. Additionally, not all offenses are egregious enough to fire the perpetrators. So what is a leader to do? In this presentation, we discuss the real tools leaders have at their disposal to change behavior and improve workplace culture using existing diversity and inclusion and coaching models and theories as our touchstones.
