Abstract

This study presents a systematic review of previous literature on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of special education. The study identifies and analyzes current research studies related to the use of AI technology in supporting learners with special needs. Through a review process of the previous literature, we examine research studies that have been peer-reviewed and conference papers published over recent years. This review highlights a variety of AI tools applied in research, such as adaptive learning systems, intelligent tutoring systems, speech recognition programs, and assistant robots. The findings reveal that AI has the potential to provide effective learning experiences, thereby enhancing the educational outcomes for students with special needs. However, some challenges are discussed such as ethical considerations and the need for teacher training. The study concludes with recommendations for future research, emphasizing the need for empirical evidence on the effectiveness of AI in special education environments and the development of guidelines for the ethical use.
