Demystifying Entrepreneurship in a Risky Society Era: Greater Bay Area and the sequential SWOT from Chinese Medicine Practitioners Perspective

Abstract

It is commonly believed that entrepreneurial mindsets (EM) may embrace diversity of thought and multiple vision. Thus, EM has become increasingly popular among undergraduates in General Education (GE) courses. Some universities have even started to embed EM elements in their GE courses. Considering backgrounds like these, while a group of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioners were invited to join a pilot study in March 2021 to express their concerns and expectations to the role of TCM beyond COVID-19 crisis, basic concepts of entrepreneurial mindsets were given to the participants simultaneously which aimed to explore their expectation and necessity to the notion of entrepreneurial mindsets in TCM curriculum design and/or Career Development Scheme. The preliminary results demonstrate that entrepreneurial motivation has widen been accepted among TCM practitioners as there is a strong possibility among them to manage a clinic or act as a freelance practitioner. Meanwhile, focus groups covered certain issues for discussion such as the implementation of Greater Bay Area (GBA). The narrations confirm that GBA a great way to develop TCM as it is a very large and potential market for TCM practitioners. The researcher applies SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) analysis to review the role of TMC and its way-outs in GBA beyond COVID-19 crisis.
