The purpose of this study is to explore online assessment of environmental education module in open distance learning as it is under researched. The study employed a qualitative approach and an interpretive paradigm. Participants were purposively selected. Data was ethically collected using interviews, participant observation and documentation and was thematically analysed. Findings include: academics were trained on administration of full online assessment, training of all markers on online marking, provision of data to all qualifying students, all qualifying students had an opportunity to write examination during covid-19, registration of all submitted assessments, and full online marking. Challenges include: difficulty with uploading the question paper, non-appearance of some qualifying students from the main list, non-training of students on online examination, challenge with downloading the question paper, challenge with opening jRouter, and a lack of connectivity in some areas.
