The Role of Media Literacy in Technology Driven Classrooms

There has been an enormous change in technology over the past few decades which has impacted almost every sector including education. Recent progression in media technologies has made it even more evident why there is need to promote media literacy. Today’s student is surrounded by technology and different types of media formats which has proven ‘Media Literacy’ as an essential need of our society. The purpose of this paper is to present broad analytical insight into the importance of media literacy in technology-driven classrooms. The concept and its practical approach towards achieving the success of new advancements in teaching and learning methods are discussed in detail. The study is structured using a research focus approach to evaluate results from qualitative samples. With technological changes, students and educators’ involvement in higher education has also changed drastically, and the introduction of new teaching and learning skills in a classroom has made media literacy’s role more prominent. To fit into the media-saturated environment, students need to be well equipped with critical thinking and analysis skills. To achieve this goal, students are taught media literacy by professors, parents, researchers, and administrators. Media literacy should continue to be incorporated into higher education in order to teach students how to consume media information and connect their behaviors with the knowledge to produce media effectively.
