A Model of Repetition for Creating Listening Texts for L2 Learners

A body of research has suggested that repetition, rephrasing and other linguistic elaborations are crucial to the comprehension process. Such research evidence has important implication for materials development in spite of a great deal of controversy over the use of authentic texts and modified texts. This study outlines repetition as an important tool to make dialogues more accessible to L2 learners. Results from a survey of the scripts prepared for listening assessment in Hong Kong can provide insights to the way information may be reiterated to enhance comprehension. A model is devised consisting of nine strategies for presenting a piece of information.
