Abstract
In 2020 the COVID-19 pandemic occurred. Arts companies and venues suspended performances or found ways to present work digitally, but with little ticket sales income. This meant that the income gap was exacerbated. This paper explores how arts managers and boards responded to it. It examines the economic condition of the art museums in the USA and Russia, and the way in which fundraising practice and financial management have changed to address on the on-going COVID-19 pandemic condition of the fine arts in both. The paper is based on the analysis of financial statements of arts museums in USA and Russia.
