Benefits and Detriments - Considering the Role of Tourism in Complex Systems: Mapping Systems to Understand the Impacts in a Jurisdiction

Abstract

This study uses a research example from Kauai about the impacts tourism has on other key elements in a complex system to guide participants through a mapping systems exercise. This exercise will help participants understand the interconnection and interdependencies within systems that help or hinder tourism, and which in turn affect the populations and environment in which tourism occurs.
