Possibilities of Biodiesel Production and Use in Tourism Sector

Abstract

Modern trends in the use of renewable energy sources, as well as activities aimed at the transition from linear to circular economy, indicate the need for increase in use of waste materials as energy sources. In this paper we present the effects of using bio fuels in Serbia on two hypothetical examples. Considering that road transport is one of the largest air pollutants, one of the possible alternatives is certainly bio diesel fuel, which is one of the biodegradable fuels considered by many to be an effective replacement for fossil fuels in the future. If we also look at current trends in the process of using renewable energy sources through the conversion of waste materials into energy and trends in the development and implementation of the circular economy concept, one of the optimal solutions for reducing the share of fossil fuels in road transport is the use of bio diesel fuel produced from waste edible oil. The paper presents cost benefit analysis of use and production of biodiesel fuel by processing waste edible oil within the hotel accommodation in one of the most popular tourist places in Serbia - Vrnjačka Banja, and its impact on greenhouse gas emissions. This analysis is presented as an example of good practice which can be implemented in hotel accommodation all over the world.
