Old People as City-Makers

The qualitative data from the ethnological and cultural anthropological field research on contemporary aging practices and related narratives of age and aging in the Croatian capital, Zagreb, is presented and discussed. The theoretical basis is the anthropology of aging, anthropology of a city, anthropology of place and space, and anthropology of family and kinship, as well as the concepts of city-making, public space and intergenerational relations. The paper is conceived as a (critical) reflection on the concept of active aging on the example of the city of Zagreb and Croatia.
