Abstract
The territorial scope of the geopark located between the Colca Valley and the volcanoes in the provinces of Caylloma and Castilla in the Arequipa region has been recognized worldwide. It is the first geopark in Peru and it encompasses a set of communities, which also represents a wide range of cultural, geological, and ecological values, among other resources (in their different types). All this represents a development opportunity that the communities hope to be able to achieve in the medium and long term considering certain previous aspects such as the strengthening of territorial planning appropriate to the geographical area, starting from special treatment, on the corresponding legal, technical, and economic basis. In this study, we consider this important aspect that could allow certain advantages in the management of its development and therefore raise the standards of quality of life of people in a framework of a predominantly rural economy.
