Effectiveness of the Government Internship Program

Abstract

The Government Internship Program (GIP) is the training implemented by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) that aims to provide young workers, especially the indigent, with the experience that will be beneficial in entering public service and contributes to inclusive growth through massive employment generation and substantial poverty reduction. The study assesses the effectiveness of GIP on its graduates’ employability after undergoing the program of the DOLE Field Office (DOLE-FO) and the supervision of its partner Host Training Establishments (HTEs) in the municipalities of the province of Bulacan. The study utilized a mixed-methods research design that used quota sampling in getting the sample and both semi-structured interviews in gathering data. The results from qualitative and quantitative data show that the program’s effectiveness has minimal challenges affecting its beneficiaries’ employability.
