From Lagom to Holy Hygge: The Mobility of Scandinavian Lifestyle Medicine in the Everyday

Abstract

My project addresses Scandinavian Lifestyle Medicine which works in ways traditional medicine fails to reach- the mundane “Everyday” quality of post-pandemic life that our metamodernist/contemporary period is still preoccupied with, the mapped-out, fine-grained, compartmentalized, and systematic decluttering gesture of the body and mind. I discuss the transitional changes from the Lagom book to the Peacock TV show Swedish Death Cleaning, and from the Hygge project of secular wellness industry to the Holy Hygge program from a more religious context. The hope is to delve into the “Mobility” of Scandinavian Lifestyle Medicine Trend that is compatible and compensational with narrative medicine and is constantly and organically moving across space and time, if not synthetically geared toward or away from the market.
