Digital Transformation Adoption in Secondary Schools - An Empirical Study: Is the Advancement of Tasks such as Personal Learning Network Being Taken Advantage Of?

Abstract

Digital transformation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are hot topics covered in almost all sectors in society. Specifically, for Secondary Schools, the use of AI tools such as NLP methods can offer opportunities to offer personalized experiences and communications to the students as well as to easily detect disruptive behavioral patterns to intervene early. Digital transformation and AI tools can also bring challenges such as low level of adoption of digital tools from some professionals as well as difficulty of access according to student’s socioeconomic level. This research aims to investigate the factors and the digital transformation adoption in secondary schools through an empirical study employing interviews with directors, heads of study and educational psychologists. The research considers fuzzy logic tools such as Forgotten Effects Theory to measure and evaluate the distance between factors and levels involved in the digital transformation process. To ensure the reliability and validity of the measurements used in the study, a digital transformation expert is consulted to validate the scales for measuring the weight of the different factors considered to measure the adoption level of the professionals and the centers. The research can provide relevant information for optimizing and developing AI tools in various domains and sectors.
