Building a Pipeline of Girls in STEM Majors and Careers : Recruiting Women Begins Early

Abstract

The purpose of the session is to give participants the tools and the know-how to bring more girls to a college campus and engage them in various hands-on projects. We will first discuss the reasons why there is a lack of females in the STEM sector, then finds ways together to combat it. The facilitator will share her success in building sustainable programming, and how it has impacted the enrollment of female minorities in her college. She will share ways to find funding, facilitators, and helpers. Qualitative research will be shared regarding the success stories of participants and where they are today. Participants will also take part in a typical breakout session STEM project done by students who attend a program.
