Online Education Comparisons between United States and Puerto Rico: Economic Realities and Disparities between Two Educational Systems View Digital Media

Focused Discussion
Geffrey Colon

The pandemic created by the COVID19 virus has lead to a shift in remote online learning to educational systems in the United States and Puerto Rico. Such shift has impacted K-12 school districts communities in both areas as to how to deliver "quality" education to all students. Economic realities and disparities have created an educational setting via remote online learning that has impacted school districts in the scope of the opportunities to either have access or no access to the online learning curriculum for students. The level of socioeconomic status per school districts is at the center of the opportunities for online learning access to students. As a result, there is a high level of concern as to how the future of educational progress for current students in the K-12 system is going to impact the different learning communities.
