From Information and Communication Technologies to Technology Across Curriculum: Innovation and Technology at School

Abstract

Education is an important aspect of the development of our society. Throughout history, it has been possible to observe how it has evolved considerably, either in its contents or in its methodologies or the materials used. The society has shifted from focusing on classrooms for computing to computing for classrooms. This entails the introduction of ICTs, or also called Information and Communication Technologies, on a large scale in classrooms, becoming a pedagogical tool for teachers and a motivation for students. The objective of this work is to analyze the evolution of information technologies to learning and knowledge technologies. In this work, a qualitative documentary search methodology has been developed. From an educational point of view, the objective of ICT, and a challenge, in turn, is to work in the digital competence of students so that they can be part of today’s society, which is connected. This perspective is responding to the process that is taking the use of technologies in schools, where, we have started from teaching about ICT to teaching based on technological means, thus taking us to the Learning and Knowledge Technologies, where the objective is to teach through technology. The main objective that schools must adopt is to integrate technologies in teaching and learning to improve and guarantee that students possess basic digital skills. During this process, it is essential that teaching and learning especially ICT progress significantly, responding to current demands, making reference not only to material resources but also human resources.
