Material and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Tsakonia

Abstract

The cultural identity of the Tsakonians consists of: the Tsakonian dialect, the Tsakonian clothing, the Tsakonian dance, the Tsakonian architecture, and the Tsakonian weaving. Some elements belong to the material and others to the intangible cultural heritage of the region while the Tsakonic dance and commemoration in Vasκina related to the dialect are already listed in the National Index of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Greece. The purpose of this work is to highlight the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of Tsakonia and to explore efforts made by the local community to preserve and transmit it.
