Economics of Halal in the Philippines: A Potential Avenue of Promoting Peace and Development

Abstract

The systemic and on-going trends on development and wellness have made many scholars and nutrition experts look for new ways to address this phenomenon. One avenue for this would be Halal, though it has been perceived wrongly, Halal can be the catalytic avenue that can address both development and wellness issues pertinent to today’s time. The study aims to look at the potential of Halal in providing the much needed avenue for development and peace while addressing wellness issues that plague our time today. Perceived as food permissible for Muslims, Halal is more than food and would encompass a lifestyle that the Muslims embrace. Guided by a structural perspective on development the study aims to provide a concrete linkage between development and peace while addressing needs on nutrition and wellness for Filipinos. With the budding Halal industry worldwide the study will act as a catalytic force in employment peace and development in process of promoting a countries path towards sustainable growth.
