Abstract

In Bangladesh every year around 400 thousand people go abroad seeking of job. Past few years the flow has been increased but Bangladesh has failed to maintain a position on highest remittance receiving ranking. Risky health behavior might be a cause of being disqualified from the selection procedure and need to address as double burden of economical state for the job seeker individuals. This cross sectional study was conducted in the Department of Microbiology of Mymensingh Medical College, Mymensingh, Bangladesh. 1043 participants aged between 18-44 years were enrolled. On basis of the urine and blood report we found that nearly 10% (7.77%) were unfitted due to presence of substances trace or having any blood borne diseases. While considering geographical distribution, we found that among the unfitted employee nearly 25% of them were from Mymensingh district vs. the others (p-0.148). In multivariate logistic regression analysis, we found that with the increases of age odds for unfitness increases. Distribution of the fitted and unfitted job seekers was symmetrical for unmarried participants where for married job seekers unfitness was more observed in elder age group. Despite all limitation this study establishes that risky health behavior is a barrier to get overseas job. Finding of this study indicates that increasing age urban areas are also vulnerable for drug abuse. National policy should raise initiatives to save our future generation.
