Trends and Opportunities for Undergraduate Students in a Traditional Education System: A Longitudinal Case Study

Abstract

The present study seeks to understand the trends and opportunities for undergraduate students in a traditional educational system, taking one of the top women’s college of Bengaluru city. The data was collected on placement details for various courses- BCom, BCA, BBA, B.Sc, B.A, B.Voc, and M.Com were collected from 2011-12 to 2017-18 which include four major sectors-IT, Non-IT, Finance and Health. Data was analyzed using the two-way ANOVA to compare year wise, course-wise and sector wise placements. The results reveal that over the years there is no significant improvement in the placement of the students from 2010-11 to 2017-18. Sector-wise placements are same across all the four sectors. Whereas the Commerce discipline attracted more placements followed by computer science and Bachelor of Arts least. The reasons for decreased placements are analyzed, especially Arts stream. Further, new trends in placements like e-recruitment are delineated.
