Promoting Connections to Increase Inclusion and Assimilation of Youth in New Environments: A Comparison of Similar Projects in Spain and the U.S.

Abstract

This paper describes two projects in different countries and domains that share the underlying goal of trying to help young people acclimate to new cultural environments. In both settings, youth arrive in a new environment quite different from their previous situation and face difficulties assimilating. The primary project goal in both cases is to help these youth by applying concepts from psychology that indicate that increased interactions with others leads to greater inclusion and acceptance.
