Evaluating the Learning Process of the Study Visit of the Indonesian Defense University: The Causal Layered Analysis Approach

Abstract

Every year the Indonesian Defense University carries out study visits in various regions in Indonesia. Each faculty has visited an area with a different agenda to learn about defense issues in the field. This year the asymmetrical war study program conducted a study visit in the city of Manado by visiting five different instances. The five agencies include Lantamal (Main Navy Base) VIII, Governor of North Sulawesi, Kodam (Military Area Command) XIII / Merdeka, North Sulawesi Regional Police, and Lanudsri (Air Force Base). The theme of the study visit was the synergy of the provincial government and the Indonesian National Police on facing potential threats in the North Sulawesi province. The study visit is one of the appropriate learning methods to study the interrelationship between agencies in building a strong Indonesian defense. This paper evaluates the learning process of the study visit through the Causal Layered Analysis (CLA) method. The CLA from Sohail Inayatullah is divided into four levels of analysis, namely litany, social causes, discourse/worldview, and myth/metaphor. Through the analysis, it is hoped that the study visit program in the future can be more effective as a means of field learning about the synergy of Indonesian defense at the regional level.
