Creating and Transmitting Cultural Heritage: A Training Program for Community and School Leaders

Abstract

With the advent of globalization, it is noted throughout the world that, on a daily basis that there is a definitive loss of language, knowledge, customs, ideas, and traditions leading to a gradual impoverishment of human society and the contextual mortification of cultural diversity. Research suggests that oral and intangible heritage play a significant role in the development of national and international tolerance and harmonious interaction between cultures. Intangible cultural heritage transmitted from generation to generation is constantly created and recreated by communities and groups in response to their environment, their interaction with nature, and their history and provides them with a sense of identity, community and continuity, that promote respect for cultural diversity and human creativity. Cultural heritage as a source of exchange, innovation, and creativity is vital to humanity and the promotion of harmony, appreciation, and understanding of intercultural relations. A workshop based on a training program on ‘Training Community and School Leaders in Creating and Transmitting Cultural Heritage’, as piloted in Melbourne, Australia, is offered to delegates.
