Abstract
Historically in Brazil family farming has always been marginalized as regards access to rural technical assistance. The objective of this case study was to identify the aspirations of professional qualification and attendance of rural technical assistance in agroforestry yards of family farmers of the rural nucleus of Ponte Alta, Gama - Federal District, Brazil. The research is methodologically characterized as quantitative, exploratory, and descriptive in nature. The sample size corresponded to 99 family farmers. In investigating family farmers on the support of some government funding for the development of family farming, in only four cases was “yes” answered and the other 95 respondents answered “no” having received any government assistance. About rural technical assistance 60% of respondents reported not having received any technical assistance. Among the 40% who received technical assistance, there is considerable concern about soil and water conservation. Regarding the aspirations of professional qualification, it was observed that the most requested course by the interviewees was “production of native forest species,” being pointed out by 92.92%. The courses in “Organic Agriculture,” “Fruit Farming,” “Agroforestry Systems,” Rural Administration,” and “Medicinal Plants,” were also very popular (above 80%). It is concluded that there is a desire of the informants to obtain knowledge about forest nurseries and production of native forest seedlings. The qualification of these farmers becomes key for the adoption and consolidation of agroforestry practices in the rural property. Actions aimed at prioritizing the collective construction of environmental conservation may prompt the local community to build a forest nursery.
