"The Landscape as Image of Fiction: about a Literary Knowledge"
Description
Bernard Franco is a Professor of General and Comparative Literature at Sorbonne University (Paris). Since 2019 he has been the President of the European Society of Comparative Literature and was previously the secretary. Franco has been the President of the Groupement d'Intérêt Scientifique "Jeu et sociétés" since 2021 and was the Head of the French and Comparative Literature department of his university from 2012 to 2017. He is the co-editor, with Véronique Gély, of the series "Perspectives comparatistes" at Garnier, and with Asun Lopez Varela, of the series "CompLit InterArt" published by Common Ground (series of the European Society of Comparative Literature). Franco is a member of the editorial board of various journals, including the Revue de Littérature Comparée, CompLit, Noria, the Revue européenne de recherches sur la poésie. Additionally, he is a member of the International Advisory Board of the International Journal for Comparative Cultural Studies. His research focuses on European Romanticisms, Franco-German cultural transfers, questions of dramaturgy, and the relationship between literature and aesthetics. His publications include Le Despotisme du goût. Débats sur le modèle tragique allemand en France, 1797-1813 (Göttingen, Wallstein, 2006) and La Littérature comparée. Histoire, domaine, méthodes (Paris, Armand Colin, 2016).
