The Art of Meditation: Using Slow Looking and Narrative Writing to Promote Mindfulness View Digital Media
Workshop Presentation Neva Kirk Sanchez, Gauri Agarwal, Hope Torrents
Slow looking and narrative writing exercises are forms of mindfulness meditation that can incorporate visual art. Mindfulness based stress reduction is a widely used evidence-based strategy that supports well-being across a range of work environments. The Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami has developed a mindful looking program that has been widely used by university faculty and staff to support wellness. This session reviews the literature on slow looking and narrative writing for well-being and mindfulness and demonstrates the technique. Participants will have the opportunity to experience mindful looking and narrative writing focused on a work of art.
