New Trends in Digital Humanities : Using High Performance Computing in Social Sciences

Abstract

This session demonstrates how digital humanities have enhanced the possibilities of disseminating knowledge by bridging the gap between programming and Social Sciences. Our showcase focuses on the curatorship of Digital Humanities, in the context of the High Performance Computing Chair at the University of Évora, which is part of the High Performance Computing Centre. Based on our previous experience in designing courses in this area, and offering work packages in digital archives, we present ways of using data visualisation in some areas within the scope of Linguistics and Literature and provide examples of the digital curatorship services we are currently offering, including beginner’s courses that introduce an overview of data sets and visualisation concepts in data handling, analytics, and visualisation with VeusZ, Julia, or Python.
